Mental Health First Aid for Youth (Free Community Training)
Friday, August 16, 2024, 08:30am - 04:00pm

Every 2nd Friday of the month, Tri-City Mental Health hosts free Community Mental Health Trainings to address ways to support individual and community mental health and build resilience. This month, we're hosting a free Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Youth training on Friday, August 16, 2024. This training will be held from 8:30 AM-4:00 PM at the La Verne Community Center located at 3680 D St, La Verne, CA 91750.

Whether you work with children and youth, or you’re a parent or caregiver, you can play a critical role in helping children and youth thrive. Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is designed to teach adults who support and regularly interact with young people how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis, using a 5-step Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE). Participants will learn:

        • Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and substance use challenges.
        • Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying
        • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis
        • How to connect youth to professional, peer, social, and self-help care

Open to the general public, service providers and community members in Pomona, Claremont and La Verne.

Registration is required. Register by August 13 at tinyurl.com/yv23cxz3.
